Cellulite routine after 35 is a topic where everyone has an opinion and almost nobody gives you a clear, structured answer. So let me give you mine – based on what I actually use, why it works, and exactly when I do it.
This post combines everything I do for skin quality and fat loss support in one place: three topical lotions, three teas, and one cardio tool I’ve added to my pre-workout routine.
Why Cellulite Gets Worse After 35
After 35, your body produces less collagen, estrogen levels start shifting, and microcirculation – the blood flow in small vessels just beneath the skin – tends to slow down. All three of these factors directly affect how cellulite looks and feels.
The connective tissue that holds fat cells beneath the skin becomes less structured, which lets fat push through more visibly. Add water retention on top of that and the surface looks worse than it actually is.
The good news: you can work on all three levers – topically, internally, and through your training. Here’s how I do it.
The Topical Layer – What I Apply and When
All three products are available on iHerb. I use my personal promo code KDO6565 β it gets you a discount on your first or recurring order.
1. Glutathione + Niacinamide Body Lotion – morning, first step
Antioxidants belong in the morning. During the day your skin is exposed to UV light, pollution, and environmental stressors that generate free radicals – and that is exactly what glutathione is designed to neutralise. It is one of the body’s most powerful antioxidants, working directly against oxidative stress in the skin. Niacinamide (vitamin B3) complements it by brightening, evening skin tone, and strengthening the skin barrier.
Apply after your morning shower while skin is still slightly warm. Focus on thighs, hips, and abdomen – areas most affected by cellulite and uneven tone. Let it absorb before moving to step two.
2. Collagen Body Lotion – morning, second step
Once the glutathione lotion has absorbed, layer the collagen lotion on top. Collagen peptides support skin elasticity and the structural appearance of the tissue underneath. This is also your hydration base for the day – it keeps the skin barrier sealed and helps lock in everything from step one.
Apply generously and massage in with upward circular movements. This alone stimulates local microcirculation, which matters a lot for the appearance of cellulite.
3. Retinol Body Lotion – evening, 3β4x per week
Retinol belongs at night – for two reasons. First, it makes your skin more photosensitive, so daytime application increases your risk of sun damage. Second, your skin goes into active repair mode during sleep: cell turnover increases and collagen synthesis is more active, making nighttime the ideal window for retinol to do its work. Clinical research has shown that consistent topical retinol use measurably improves skin elasticity and can smooth the surface of cellulite-affected skin over time.
Apply in the evening to the same areas as your morning routine. Start with 2x per week and build up gradually. Always use SPF during the day when using retinol. Do not combine with strong exfoliants on the same night.
The Internal Layer – Teas and When to Drink Them
These three teas, which I also covered in my 5 best teas for fat loss post, work on water retention, circulation, and antioxidant protection from the inside.
I drink them throughout the day as part of a simple structure.
Green Tea – morning, before or with breakfast
Green tea contains catechins and a moderate amount of caffeine, both of which support fat oxidation and have mild diuretic properties. Its antioxidants help reduce fluid retention and support skin appearance from within – a natural complement to your morning topical routine. I drink 1-2 cups in the morning. If you are caffeine-sensitive, keep it to one cup and have it with food.
Dandelion Tea – midday or afternoon
Dandelion is my go-to for water retention. It contains natural diuretic compounds that promote excretion of excess water and sodium β and unlike synthetic diuretics, dandelion also provides potassium, helping to maintain electrolyte balance. It also supports liver and kidney function, which indirectly helps with detoxification and skin clarity.
I drink 1-2 cups in the afternoon, well away from training so I’m not running to the bathroom mid-workout.
Hibiscus Tea – evening, caffeine-free
Hibiscus is rich in antioxidants and has well-documented diuretic properties. It supports better circulation and kidney function, helping the body regulate fluid balance more effectively. The deep red colour signals a high anthocyanin content – compounds that support connective tissue and vascular health. One cup in the evening. Naturally caffeine-free, so it won’t interfere with sleep.
The Cardio Layer – Sweet Sweat + Belt
Sweet Sweat Workout Enhancer is a topical gel I apply to my abdomen before cardio, combined with a neoprene waist belt. The gel is activated by your elevated heart rate – it works with your natural sweat response to promote increased circulation and sweating in the target area.
What I notice: I warm up faster, I sweat more in the midsection, and it keeps me focused on engaging my core during the session.
How I use it:
- Apply to clean, dry skin before cardio – not over any lotion or cream, as that creates a barrier that blocks the product
- Put the neoprene belt on top
- Works best during steady-state cardio or HIIT – I use it on my 30β45 minute treadmill or cycling sessions
What it doesn’t do: It doesn’t burn fat on its own. The water weight you lose during the session comes back once you rehydrate. The value is in the improved warm-up, the circulation boost, and – honestly – the ritual. It signals to my brain that it’s time to work. That psychological cue alone is worth something.
Sweet Sweat is also available on iHerb – use code KDO6565 for a discount.

On non-training days the tea and lotion routine stays the same – only the Sweet Sweat step drops out.
The Bottom Line
None of these things work in isolation. But together β antioxidant protection in the morning, collagen support, targeted teas throughout the day, and a focused pre-cardio ritual – they form a coherent, layered approach that makes a visible difference over time.
No extreme protocols. No expensive treatments. Just consistency, stacked habits, and the right tools.
